2020's Self Care Commitment - Little Rock Moms Network

2020’s Self Care Commitment

So far I’ve broken down 2 out of the 3 Haynes’ family goals for the first part of 2020, so I’m continuing the break down for our final goal and giving some more detail on our “get it together: self care” commitment.  (One of my favorite goals for this new year!!)

As moms it’s so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of day to day life: keeping your family on schedule, managing the household, getting dinners on the table and kids to all their activities. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by everything that demands our focus and the To Do Lists that always seems to get longer no matter how many tasks we actually cross off. But I have to tell you mommas, it’s OKAY to put yourself first sometimes. You can’t pour from an empty cup. I’ve found myself too many times this past year trying to give to my family with nothing left in my cup and it only hurts myself and my family. So this year I have a commitment to taking some time to put myself first, to recharge my batteries, and to focus on things that make me feel special.

Self-care can mean so many different things, for me I have 3 directions I’m going. First is taking care of my body–drink enough water, get good sleep, eat more healthily, and working out a little more than once a week. Second is to focus on my mind. It’s so crazy how just doing some little things can really take over your mindset, so it’s important to do those things that build you up instead of tear you down. So much of self-care is loving yourself. There are a lot of days where that’s the last thing on my mind, but this year I’ve decided to do a few things that are just for me, to build up my self-confidence and get me ready to face each day. As silly as it sounds my goal is to put on “real” clothes and do my makeup (at least mascara) everyday. This builds me up and makes me feel like I’ve got purpose even if I’m just saying in the house all day with the kiddo. Probably most importantly I’m going to focus on positive thinking, having my internal thoughts be uplifting and encouraging instead of critical. Finally I’m taking the time to do a little pampering. This is the self-care I’m most excited about because honestly, I can’t remember the last time I truly took time to do some of these things no matter small just to treat myself. I’m looking forward to a year filled with special treats from pedicures and a massage to stretching and some float treatments!

So moms, take a time out that’s just for you and do something that makes you feel special. You deserve it!

What’s you’re favorite way to treat yo’ self??
